Native American Miccosukee jingle dress also known as a prayer dress from the 1940s. Sage green and mini floral calico print dress adorned with hundreds of small rolled snuff tobacco can lids rolled into cones sewn into rows. The snuff lids used in this dress are imprinted REDWOOD. Traditionally, used in competitive pow wows where the women perform light, elegant dance steps creating a beautiful “swishing - jingling - chiming” melodic mesmerizing sound. The jingle or prayer dress is also, worn while women come together dancing for their communities morale, the health of their friends and families and healing the sick. The dress is accented with white and burgundy satin ribbon trim with short sleeves, back neck slit with a hook & eye. Handmade using 100% cotton. Dress is quite heavy and traditionally, worn with a belt. Fits modern size small. Excellent vintage condition.
